Pool & Pool House – Clevedon

A North Road outdoor space reimagined for family retreat living.

Set within the rolling hills of Clevedon, this project transformed a rural section into the ultimate family retreat.

Using the natural slope of the land, the clients wanted to create a pool and pool house that would not only capture uninterrupted north easterly views of the Hauraki Gulf but also become a hub for family and friends to enjoy for years to come.

The result is a space that feels both connected to the home and completely its own destination. The brief was clear: design a pool and pool house that blended rustic character with modern convenience.

The clients wanted a space that celebrated the outdoors, soaked in all day sun, and provided everything needed for long hours of relaxation and entertainment without losing the rural charm of their property.

Details

To achieve this, a series of thoughtful design and material choices were introduced:

Recycled H6 pine reclaimed from the Pine Harbour Marina upgrade was used for the structure, giving the project an authentic, rustic quality while ensuring sustainability and strength.
Surrounding the pool, we installed black oxed, acid-washed concrete with a crisp overhanging edge. This finish delivers durability, minimal maintenance, and a striking contrast to the natural landscape.
The pool house was designed as a self-contained entertainment space. Inside, it features a bar, kitchenette, bathroom facilities, and a pool table everything required for a full day (or night) of poolside living.
Beneath the pool house, the undercroft was cleverly utilised for the pool’s plumbing system and enclosed garage storage, keeping the site functional as well as beautiful.
Practicality was enhanced with a dedicated rainwater collection system, ensuring the pool is topped up without impacting the home’s main water supply.
Finally, we reinstated the rock gardens and sleeper steps, tying the new layout seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.
